Model Of The Month

This month our lovely model is Teniah Twisted, this gorgeous Scots Burlesque performer joined us for a wee photo shoot in an abandoned US Airbase in the north of Fife in 2009 with the talented GothIndulgence behind the lens!

Teniah Twisted

Queeny -  In 100 words or less, tell us a little about yourself!

Teniah Twisted - My act is a fusion of dance, strip-tease, story telling and comedy (sometimes with a touch of fetish). It’s fair to say I like things on the alternative side and I definitely lean towards neo-burlesque rather than the traditional.

I’m partly influenced by fairytales and as my name suggests, I delight in twisting them into my own fantasies! I like anything that’s a bit dark. That goes for music as well

I’m one third of burlesque troupe, The Bloody Marys (which also features Miss Sassykat & Roxy Lace) and run Edinburgh charity burlesque night TEAZE (keep your eyes peeled for the next date! PLUG PLUG)

Q - How did you get started in Burlesque?

TT - I attended a burlesque workshop in Glasgow, just out of curiosity. It intrigued me because it seemed like a fusion of all of the elements of performance that interest me – strip-tease, theatre (I studied this at uni), dance and comedy. I instantly fell in love!

Q - What is your favourite routine to perform?

TT - Probably my ‘The Ruby Slippers’ act.

Q - You've worn a few of my hats when we did our photoshoot in an abandoned US Airforce base! How was that experience for you and do you have a favourite hat from that day?

TT - I had so much fun that day. It’s such an awesome location and the company was great. It’s hard to choose a favourite but probably I’d have to go for the one I took home that day. It’s the one featured in one of my favourite photos from the shoot, where I’m leaning against a window looking outside. A little black number with a deep red orchid. I love it.

Q - What are your plans/ambitions for the future?

TT - To knuckle down and develop my work. I want to explore the world of fetish some more and perhaps look at a change of direction for my next couple of acts.

I also hope to incorporate some live music into an act – it’s in the pipeline so watch this space!

I also want to do London before the year is out and I MUST go back down to Newcastle asap! It’s without a doubt my favourite place to perform.

Q - Where can we come and see you perform in the future?

TT - In the near future I have a couple of gigs booked for the Edinburgh festival if you’d like to come see me…I’m performing at Va Va Voom (Electric Circus) on 7 Aug and Kabarett (Voodoo Rooms) on 21 August. I’m also modelling at Torture Garden in Edinburgh on 17 July, which I can’t wait for! I performed there last year and it was such an awesome crowd so I’m really looking forward to it.

Q - I know that like me you LOVE fairytales... which is you absolute favourite and why??

TT - That’s a toughie! Little Red Riding Hood is up there with the best. I also love Hansel and Gretel, just for the sheer creepiness of it. As a child, The Princess and the Pea was my fave and I still love it.

I’m always amazed by how brutal traditional fairy tales are – it’s great! lol Brothers Grimm was my bible growing up. I still have and read the hardback copy I was given as a child.

Q -  If you could hold a tea party for any three people, alive or dead, who would you invite... and what sort of cakes would you serve?!

TT - Betty Page, Judy Garland, Yul Brynner! Lol. I would serve cup cakes, they are my favourite.

Q - How can people contact you for modelling/burlesque work?

TT - I can be contacted at clubteaze@live.co.uk
